Proper Care of a New Wood Floor
The National Wood Flooring Association has the following 10 tips for preventive maintenance of wood floors:

- Do not use sheet vinyl or tile floor care products on wood floors.
- Use throw rugs inside and outside doorways to reduce scratches from dirt, grit and debris
- Do not wet-mop a wood floor
- Immediately wipe up spills with a slightly damp towel
- Try buffing a dull floor rather than risk over-waxing
- Use soft plastic of fabric glides under the legs of furniture to prevent scuffing and scratching
- Avoid walking with cleats, sport shoes and high heels
- When moving furniture pick it up completely off the floor
- Place a rug over wood flooring in front of a kitchen sink
- Use a humidifier during the winter to minimize wood movement and shrinkage.
